Mauna Loa Observatory

Mauna Loa Observatory (MLO), situated on Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano, is an atmospheric baseline station operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Under an agreement with NOAA, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) owns two Brewer instruments at the site (009 and 119), which NOAA maintains. During calibration visits, ECCC also deploys one or occasionally two Triad instruments to conduct absolute calibrations. MLO’s high elevation, equatorial location, and minimal local pollution make it an optimal site for these measurements
