When the single board electronics Brewer was developed, a single optical detector was employed. {{ :pictures:8w_motor_wiring_w_led.png?400 |}} The original eight wire motor has become obsolete and the current motor sourced has only 6 wires, two wires, each providing power to a pair of coils.
